Food Insecurity

The issue of unemployment in India was worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic where many migrants were stranded by the sudden lack of demand for employees in their countries of destination. Workers became internally displaced because they were removed from their homes in their destination countries, and underwent harsh lockdown restrictions, preventing them from working and earning a living wage. They were stranded without food or shelter and were struggling to survive in their villages. While the national and state governments attempted to provide basic amenities to internally displaced migrant workers, it was not enough, and many workers struggled to live.

MAP is India’s first law centre dedicated to forced migration and displacement as it seeks to end the marginalization of migrants and refugees through using the Rule of Law to address human rights challenges and grassroots justice. They work towards creating a social capital of an empowered community that works towards protecting displaced populations through legal interventions, engaging with governing institutions, and advocacy. Their main plan of action is to create awareness, give assistance, and engage in advocacy.
